Remote Collaboration In VR
About The Project
Graduate Research Project
The goal of the research project is to improve remote productivity, development, innovation, and collaboration by introducing agile methodologies in a virtual reality environment. The research project explores the Agile methodology, Scrum, to be integrated within the virtual environment.
The Need
Unexpected world events such as the Covid-19 pandemic has forced many people to transition working remotely in their homes. Therefore, remote work in the academia and in the professional workplace have been emerging to become part of the industry norm. This has created speculation whether or not remote work will be beneficial in the long term, especially if unexpected world events happen again.

The Development
The virtual reality game was developed in the Unity Game Engine using Open-XR packages to allow the product to be universal with industry standards and platforms. Initially designed for all virtual headsets; however, it has transitioned to be a Quest exclusive headset. The majority of the VR market is from the Quest headset and a lot of useful tools were developed by Meta such free voice dictation for speech and text.
The Solution
The product allows the user to create new issues with a click of a button, allows the user to edit an issue via voice dictation and drop-down menus, drag-drop on the scrum board, draw on a whiteboard, and share computer desktop screens.

The system allows third party applications such as the Atlassian Product, JIRA, to be exported and imported into the headset via csv file. Future work plans to incorporate a live database for synchronized data for multiplayer.
